development
 Smile Africa is continuing to develop volunteer opportunities under our Lead the World and Boomers Travel Project initiatives. Like other developing countries, African nations can’t do it alone. And yes, millions of people are tormented by hunger and illiteracy and every kind of misery, yet Northern partners need to exercise some measure of caution not to assume just a “control function” and relegate Africa to be “donor-driven” in their development. Though mistakes will be made, Africans – in Africa and the Diaspora – require the enabling environment to take the difficult steps to re-gain control of their destiny and develop the dignity proper to them.
Smile Africa is one of many organizations who have raised our voice and called for G8 leaders to honour their commitment to the MDGs target. Among other world events, we participated in the STAND UP SPEAK UP campaign. Over 43.7 million people, in 127 countries broke the Guinness World Record – set last year at 23.5 million – for the largest number of people to “STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY and for The Millennium Development Goals in 24 hours.
Beyond that, we have produced the beCAUSE Campaign video to encourage people everywhere to be part of the solution in the “education” front of the MDGs.
